01Three seamless options
| Sport Classic | Sport EPDM | Sport Combi | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Composition | black rubber crumb, binder, pigment | coloured EPDM rubber, binder | black crumb shock pad, coloured EPDM top |
| Thickness | from 10 mm | from 10 mm | 12–20 mm |
| Colours | terracotta, green, black | 11 colours | 11 colours on top |
| Service temperature | −50 to +45 °C | −50 to +45 °C | −50 to +45 °C |
| Chosen for | reliable budget surface | bright colour, freeze-thaw resistance | colour and cushioning at a good price |
All three are water-permeable. They suit playgrounds, running tracks, outdoor sports grounds, tennis courts, pool surrounds and footpaths. Build-ups and consumption per layer: Sport Classic, Sport EPDM, Sport Combi.
02Indoors: rolls
In gyms and fitness centres rolled surfaces are laid instead: Teping Sport Roll of SBR crumb, Sport Roll S with a dense smooth surface, Sport Roll EPDM with coloured granules, and the Sport Roll Base underlay. Rolls are 1.2 m wide and 2–40 mm thick. They are glued with two-component Teping AD RT at 0.8–1.5 kg/m², spread with a notched trowel. A roll underlay under a polyurethane self-levelling finish gives the Teping Sport PU system.
03Bases
- Concrete: moisture up to 5 %, age at least 28 days, compressive strength at least 20 MPa, pull-off at least 1.5 MPa, no more than 2 mm under a 2 m straightedge. Remove laitance and oil, then prime with the binder using a roller.
- Asphalt: prepared to SP 31-115-2006, clean, primed with the binder.
- Ground: a compacted base of soil, a sand bed, compacted crushed stone and granite screenings compacted with a plate compactor, or fine asphalt. Provide good drainage and lay geotextile under the surface.
- Rolls are laid on a ground base only from 24 mm thick, also over drainage and geotextile.
04Consumption per square metre
| Per 10 mm of surface | Crumb | Binder | Pigment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rubber crumb surface | 7 kg | 1.6 kg | 0.4 kg |
| EPDM surface | 9.5 kg | 1.6 kg | not needed |
The base is primed with 0.23–0.40 kg/m² of binder, depending on how absorbent it is. Teping AD RC binder takes 15–25 % of the crumb mass, depending on the crumb size.
05How the surface is laid
- Check the conditions: substrate from +15 to +25 °C, air humidity up to 85 %, no rain. Keep the components for a day at 20–25 °C.
- Prime the base with the binder using a flat trowel or a roller. The primer dries in 2–3 hours.
- Weigh the components. Mix the pigment into the crumb, then slowly add the binder and mix with a mixer until uniform.
- On large areas set screed rails. Place the mix 1.5 times thicker than the design thickness, spread it with trowels and compact it with rollers to the design thickness.
- Foot traffic is possible after 24 hours, the surface is fully dry after 72 hours; vehicles after 3–5 days.
06Choosing the thickness
Sport Classic and Sport EPDM are laid from 10 mm, the two-layer Sport Combi 12–20 mm. Under play equipment the thickness depends on the free fall height: tell us the height and the equipment, and we will suggest the build-up.
